Meet Brian K. Flewelling
I am a lifelong Davison resident and 1995 graduate of Davison High School. I come from a blue-collar family, my father was a lineman for General Telephone, as well as a long-time member of the Davison city council, and my mother raised my two sisters and I, while working as a paraprofessional at an elementary school. I worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator for many years, spent 13 years with the City of Davison Department of Public Works and have served the Davison – Richfield Fire Department for 28 years, over 20 of those years in leadership positions. In 2019 I left the DPW to become just the second full time Fire Chief for the Davison – Richfield Fire Department. I live in Davison with my wife and three youngest children, and my oldest son, who is also a firefighter, lives just a few blocks away with his wife and three kids, in the house that I grew up in.Over my years in public service, I have developed very good relationships with many elected officials and public safety professionals across the state. From police officers, firefighters, EMS and Medical Control to leadership and dispatchers at Genesee County 911. Over the course of my 28 years in the fire service I have also served residents of the entire 9th District through mutual aid agreements, providing assistance and fighting fires in nearly every jurisdiction in Genesee County. My construction and public works background allowed me to develop a knowledge of infrastructure and brought me into contact with many great people with experience in water, sewers, roads, and technology. Additionally, my work to reform the Genesee County EMS system has helped me build connections with county, state, as well as private EMS officials. If granted the opportunity to serve as 9th District Commissioner I will dedicate myself to ensuring our tax dollars benefit our district and serve the needs of our citizens. No one enjoys paying taxes, however, what most of us like even less is watching our tax dollars benefit other areas that we have no vested interest in. I will support and defend public safety, strive to protect our out-county courts, fight to preserve and provide further opportunities for the expansion of EMS services, and ensure access to veteran services.I will bring integrity, transparency, accountability, and perhaps most importantly availability to the office of the 9th District County Commissioner. I have been on call 24 / 7 my entire adult life and that will not change if given the opportunity to serve as your commissioner. I am available day or night to answer any questions or concerns our residents may have.
